We added to our original 1860s home (listed on Mexico's Historic Register), and now the house is ideal for either one or two couples, or one family of up to five or six. (Perfect layout for two couples since the two bedrooms, each with a dedicated bathroom, are separated by the middle floor.) In addition, extra guests can sleep on a twin bed on the ground floor and fold-down sofas on the middle and ground floors.
Views from the kitchen/dining room rival any in Guanajuato, while the third-floor front and rear terraces are perfect to enjoy morning coffee or an evening "copita" overlooking the city. Or hang out in the private patio to the sound of our fountain.
Note: The upstairs bedroom is one floor up from a bathroom.
We're on a quiet, car-free "callejon" yet less than 15 minutes walk from all the life that Guanajuato (UNESCO World Heritage Site) has to offer: historic theaters, great restaurants, shops, churches, live music, salsa, Spanish language schools, food market and the symphony. We're also 20 minutes walk from the start of hiking trails in the hills above the city.
Rental price includes: On-call bilingual (Spanish/English) property manager, fiber-optic wifi, local phone, electricity, solar hot water (gas back-up), city water, reverse osmosis drinking water, gas stove, washing machine, weekly cleaning service.

"The location couldn’t have been better but does require a bit of a climb/incline. It is close to cafes, restaurants and a small grocery store. It’s an easy walk up to Embajadoras, Café Tal or down to Teatro Juarez and el centro. The garden patio was the perfect spot for morning coffee and opens into the living room for a lovely shared spot…WiFi worked the entire visit with a strong signal."
"Great older casa in an amazing location! We enjoyed our stay very much and the house grew on as as our trip progressed. The bedrooms are roomy and light, the decks and outdoor patio spaces plentiful and comfortable and the kitchen has the best view of all. We were 4 people and had plenty of room with 2 staying downstairs and 2 atop in the "penthouse" master bedroom."
"We love our stay at this house every year. It’s a great location, the manager responds within minutes if we have a question, the owners of the house are very responsive as we make our yearly plans. It is a lovely home in a downtown neighborhood where people are kind and make us feel welcomed. The location is great, the views from the balcony are amazing and offer an amazing way to relax each evening. I want to keep this place a secret :)"
"I recommend this house wholeheartedly. The house is even better than the pictures; so peaceful; so beautiful; so exciting. I stayed for a month and ate most meals in. The kitchen is complete. The location is perfect, a few blocks away from the noisy streets…Every time I came “home” I felt landed and happy."
"Our month stay at Tecolote 39 was simply wonderful. Conveniently located in the center, we walked everywhere and got to explore many of Guanajuato’s beautiful neighborhoods. I was traveling with my two teen children and it was so nice to have ample space for all of us."
